Anthony Hemstad: A Radical Moderate
Anthony was fortunate to grow up in Olympia in a public service-oriented family.
Early in his career he was able to work with and learn from some absolute giants in Washington state government. He’s worked for both Democrat and Republican elected officials and considers himself a “radical moderate” focusing on analysis and data-driven public policy.
In the first few years of his career his bosses included U.S. Senator Daniel J. Evans, Secretary of State Ralph Munro and State Representative Helen Sommers. They were great role models and from them, and others, he saw first-hand the importance of treating everyone with respect, examining all aspects of policy issues, and not needing to take credit for policy wins – the important thing is making improvements for the community.
Hemstad worked as a Research Analyst with Rep. Helen Sommers (D-Seattle) when Sommers Chaired the House State Government Committee.
Hemstad was a Legislative Assistant to U.S. Senator Daniel J. Evans (R-WA) in Washington, D.C. Hemstad covered international trade and foreign affairs issues, among other topics.
